Melanoma: early detection is key!

Cancer is a disease that resonates closely with me in my heart. Most people can relate because they have been touched by someone that has endured the battle with cancer of some kind. Our skin is the largest organ in our body and we have the ability to prevent and detect early when cancer occurs in this location.

The incidence of melanoma has been on the rise, despite a decrease in most other forms of cancer. In fact, melanoma is the most common cancer to occur in the 25-29 year old population. This type of skin cancer can be fatal. However, it is 100% curable if caught early. There are also many ways to help prevent your skin from developing melanoma. Sun protection is a very effective method of protecting your skin. Indoor tanning increases the risk of melanoma by 75%!

At DuBois Dermatology and Cosmetics, we are very passionate about protecting your skin and preventing skin cancer. We recommend daily use of sunscreen as well as hats and protective clothing while outside, especially during peak sun hours of 10am-2pm. In an effort to help decrease indoor tanning, we will be offering a discount on spray tanning for those who have been seen for a skin check that year. Spread the word and help slow down this rising incidence of melanoma!
